- At 20, he became a Wall Street trader on the floor of the commodity exchange.
- He met future wife Dina Sullivan, a cosmetics salesperson at a Bloomingdale’s department store, in December 1984; they married on November 2, 1985.
- In 1990, Lohan was investigated for insider trading and convicted of criminal contempt of court, because he refused to testify about other brokers. He was sentenced to three years in jail in Nassau County, and was released in 1993 on five years probation. During this time, his daughter Lindsay had started modeling for the Ford Models Agency and had begun starring in commercials.
- A Montana massage therapist, Kristi Kaufmann, asserted that Michael was intimately involved with her in 1995 while he was separated from Dina. She claims that he is the father of her daughter, Ashley. On June 30, 2008, Lohan submitted a DNA sample for a paternity test.
- After returning to his wife, Dina gave birth to second son, Dakota “Cody” Lohan. Six months later, 10-year old Lindsay had landed the role of the estranged twins in Disney’s remake of The Parent Trap. While filming in 1997 in Napa, California, Lindsay had an asthma attack and was hospitalized. He was arrested when he violated his probation after flying to Napa to visit his daughter. He subsequently served a year in prison.
- Lohan and his wife’s youngest brother, Matt Sullivan, had a fistfight outside the Lohan home on Long Island, during a communion party for the Lohans’ son Dakota. Lohan was charged with attempted assault, and while awaiting sentencing, had a car accident that led to his being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
- Michael and Dina separated in December 2005 and Dina filed for the divorce that was finalized in August 2007.
- After serving a two-and-a-half-year sentence in the Collins Correctional Facility, Lohan began working as a minister and counselor with the Long Island Teen Challenge rehabilitation program. He has also been involved in various television proposals, including a show about him and his family life, and, in 2007, the Michael Lohan Reality Project, produced by Frozen Pictures, which followed his life, work and efforts to reconnect with his daughter and family.

But instead of traveling from film set to film set when Lindsay went back to acting, Michael decided to stay in high school in New York. He graduated from a Long Island high school in 2005.
