Lindsay Lohan helps Japan relief effort

Lindsay Lohan is helping to raise money for earthquake victims in Japan.

The troubled actress – who is facing trial for allegedly stealing a $2,500 necklace from a Californian boutique – has joined forces with celebrity booker Claus Hjelmbak and Danish artist Poul Pava to raise awareness of the after-effects of the earthquake and tsunami which devastated parts of the Far East country earlier in March.

As the ‘Mean Girls’ star prepares to find out whether she will go to jail, she has been signing posters and using her celebrity status to help those who have suffered in the natural disasters.

Claus said: ‘She is truly the most talked about celebrity and she has superstar power.

‘I’m working with Poul to raise funds for Japan, and when Lindsay heard she jumped straight in to help. Poul has designed a special shirt and part of the proceeds will be donated to The American Red Cross For Japan.

He added: ‘He gave Lindsay one of his shirts and she will be wearing it to help raise awareness for the cause – with her help and the publicity it will bring, we should be able to raise so much more money.’

The 24-year-old star’s close friend went on to praise her for thinking of those less fortunate than her although she is trying to overcome her own personal issues.

He said: ‘She was so sweet, while packing for the airport to go to New York she took the time to sign posters to raise money for a Japan fund.

‘She is so strong despite everything she has been through, she is holding up in a situation where most people would break.’

Last week, the 24-year-old actress rejected a plea deal in her case in exchange for a reduced sentence and is to attend a preliminary hearing on April 22.

Lindsay Lohan cleared of rehab fight

Lindsay Lohan has one less legal problem to worry about after a prosecutor decided not to charge her in connection with an altercation while she was in a substance abuse rehab program in December.

Lohan, who faces a preliminary hearing on a felony grand theft charge April 22, could also go back to jail on a probation violation charge on the same day.

But the Riverside County, California, district attorney decided Tuesday not to pursue a possible assault charge against the actress for a December 12, 2010, incident with Dawn Holland, a Betty Ford Center staffer, the prosecutor’s spokesman said.

“Our office has completed review of the case, and we will not file charges due to insufficient evidence,” spokesman John Hall said.

Lohan checked herself into the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, for substance abuse rehab on September 28, 2010, just days after she dodged jail on another probation violation.

A Los Angeles County judge later ordered her to remain in the drug rehab program until January 3 for failing a drug test while on supervised probation for a 2007 drunken-driving charge.

An incident three weeks after she was released from rehab led to her latest legal problems. She allegedly walked out of a Venice, California, jewelry store wearing a necklace that she had not paid for, according to police.

Lohan rejected a plea deal last week, setting the stage for next month’s preliminary hearing and a possible trial.

Lindsay Lohan is changing her name

Madonna. Cher. Beyonce.

Meet Lindsay.

Lindsay Lohan’s mother told AOL’s Popeater that her daughter will be dropping her last name and, going forward, will just use “Lindsay.”

“Lindsay is dropping the Lohan and just going by Lindsay,” Dina Lohan told the entertainment website. “Plus, me and [younger daughter] Ali will be officially changing our last names back to my maiden name, Sullivan.”

Lindsay and her mother have had a tumultuous relationship with Lohan’s father, Michael, who was recently booked on suspicion of battery and false imprisonment of his girlfriend Kate Major.

How Lindsay will be referred to in the many court cases in which she is currently embroiled remains to be seen.

The actress, 24, will be beginning court proceedings for a grand theft trial in April, and according to TMZ, authorities are still deciding whether or not she will be charged in an alleged tussle with a Betty Ford Treatment Center staffer.

Lindsay Lohan rejects plea deal

Lindsay Lohan has rejected a plea deal in her felony grand theft case.

The ‘Mean Girls’ actress must now face trial after turning down the chance to plead guilty or no-contest in exchange for a reduced sentence in the case, which has seen the 24-year-old star charged over the alleged theft of a $US 2,500 necklace from an upmarket Californian boutique, sources told gossip website TMZ.

Lindsay – who is currently on probation stemming from a 2007 driving under the influence conviction – will next appear in court for a preliminary hearing on April 22, with Judge Stephanie Sautner, who is described as ‘tough but fair’, presiding over proceedings.

Earlier this week, Lindsay’s mother Dina Lohan said her daughter – who has always maintained she was loaned the necklace in exchange for publicity – was seriously considering pleading no-contest and accepting the deal as she wanted to ‘get it over with’.

Explaining why the actress was considering pleading no-contest, Dina said: ‘Obviously she’s not pleading guilty.

‘My children don’t steal things. But the system is so strange out in Los Angeles. We’re considering a couple of options and just want to get this over with in the shortest amount of time.

‘Lindsay is up for a couple of film roles, and we want this behind us the quickest way possible. We’re speaking with the attorneys and we’ll make that decision after we talk.’
